Travel options for reaching the Alps

Flights and transfers to the Alps…

Most people find travelling by air the most convenient method of getting to and from the Alps. We offer FREE airport transfers when booking a 7 day luxury ski chalet holiday subject to the conditions below. We will greet you at the airport with a warm welcome and happy smile. Rest and relax on our minibus. Your driver provides you with up to date information on the resort and snow conditions. The minibus will make a brief stop half way through the journey allowing you to stretch your legs and use a WC. Journey Times under normal traffic conditions are as folows:- Lyon, Grenoble and Geneva to resort = 2.5 hours. Chambery to Resort = 2 hours.

Free transfers are only available under the following conditions: We are unable to collect you on the day of arrival before 2pm or after 5pm so if you book an early arrival you will have to wait. We are not able to provide free transfers for return flights departing before 2pm. Minibuses on the day of departure will depart between 8.00am-9.00am (earlier during peak weeks to avoid traffic) and if you book flight departing after 2pm, you will have to wait at the airport. Free transfers are available to/from either Chambery or Geneva and are based upon 8 sharing a minibus. Unless otherwise agreed, minibuses will be allocated to your group accordingly however when there are less than 8 in one minibus we may ask you to share with other guests and we will ensure any wait times will be kept to a minimum. Transfers from/to Bourg St Maurice (arriving at 06.42 or 18.51, departing at 09.50 or 22.00) and departs from Bourg St Maurice (departs at 09.50 or 22.00) for the train station are complimentary on arrival/departure days only (charges apply on other days or at other times than stated). Early arrivals by train or self-drive only for an extra day´s skiing can be accommodated, please ask for further details (conditions apply). There is no extra discount for self-drive. Transfers from/to Grenoble or Lyon can be arranged for groups of 8 or more only, please ask for details. The chalets are not accessible until 16.00. Baby car seats and booster seats will be arranged for children and infants FREE of charge. Complimentary transfers are not available under any other conditions and it is your responsibility that all your group members are aware of these conditions.

Important Notes...
  • Baggage Allowance with most carriers is 20kgs per person with 10kg for hand luggage, Ryanair only allow 15kg and 5kg hand luggage. Some carriers like Ryanair and Easyjet charge for luggage in the hold. Watch out as they are now thinking about charging for check in services and toilet use on the plane!
  • Ski bag carriage should be booked in advance (approx £15 per bag per flight).
  • Infants under 2 years travel free on flights when sharing a seat with parent.
  • Airports are very busy during the ski season, please check in at least three hours before your flight.
  • DON’T FORGET YOUR VALID PASSPORT! (If you are not a UK passport holder please check your visa status).

Airline flights are among the fastest growing sources of global warming gases. But you can make your travel a little greener. Calculate your flight emissions and then ‘neutralise’ them through community projects which save exactly the same amount of carbon dioxide.... Click here The Carbon Neutral Company.

Get the train…

The Eurostar train is a great way of travelling and it can be a time efficient and hassle free journey, particularly if it’s easy for you to get to the new St Pancras station, London or Ashford in Kent. It’s a comfortable and relaxing way to get to the Alps without the stress of the airports. There are usually no changes throughout the journey and you arrive in Aime or Bourg St. Maurice, only 15-40 minutes from the ski chalets! (15 mins Aime to Eagles Nest, 40 mins Bourg to La Rosiere or Sainte Foy, 15 mins Moutiers to Mont d´Or). We will greet you at the station. The provisional timetable is listed below.

Outbound Depart Saturdays
St Pancras (London) Dep - 10.00
Ashford (Kent) Dep - 10.47
Bourg St Maurice Arr - 18.51
Return Depart Saturdays
Bourg St Maurice Dep - 09.50
Ashford Arr - 15.36
St Pancras Arr - 16.11

You can also arrange travel on the overnight Snow Train which allows 8 days skiing. The Snow Train departs from London at 19.39 (depending on date) and arrives in Bourg St. Maurice early morning at 06.42. The return departs from Bourg St. Maurice at 22.00 and arrives in London in the morning at 07.16. There is free ski and snowboard carriage. We do not recommend the overnight train for guests travelling with children or for people who find it difficult to sleep on a train. Should you choose this option it is important to note that you are expected to ski all day (hence the reason for taking the overnight train) and your chalet will not be acessible until 4pm.

Seats are in very short supply and availability is not guaranteed. Travel by rail is available from arond 17 December each year. Check in advised 60 minutes prior to departure.

Drive to the Alps…

Should you prefer to drive to the Alps, the cost of a car with four passengers averages about £80 per head for a round trip to the Tarentaise Valley if you live within 200 miles of Dover. The journey should take you no longer than nine hours from Calais. There are a number of different ways to cross the channel which includes the Channel Tunnel which takes approximately 35 minutes, a speed ferry (which can be the most cost effective) which gets you across in 50 minutes or a standard car ferry which normally takes around 90 minutes. Aim for a ferry departure from UK at around 0800 hrs. You should then arrive at the chalet between 1800 and 1900hrs. Please note that it is obligatory to carry snow chains when driving in the Alps. The route is easily navigated and follows autoroutes for 95% of the journey.

The tolls for a return journey are approximately 70 € each way. Payment by card or cash. Expect to pay approximately €1.55 per litre for petrol on the autoroute, diesel is over 10% cheaper

Please note: Please be aware that the chalets will be available for your use from 4pm on the changeover day. By prior arrangement, we are happy to provide you with a room after 9am in which to store your luggage, refresh and get changed. We would like to advise you that occasionally on changeover days there could be some overlap of incoming and outgoing guests.
