The Tarentaise valley in the Rhone-Alps region of France is a beautiful place for a perfect summer holiday, with warm temperatures throughout July and August in the mid 70’s. The Petit St. Bernard Pass:
Situated on the old Roman road from Milan to Vienna, the pass links France to Italy and is full of historical significance dating from the 17th century. Things to see:
- Petit St.Bernard Hospice...built in the Middle Ages to shelter the numerous travellers from the wind, cold, altitude and snow.
- Chanousia...Alpine garden with over 1200 species of mountain flora
- Mont Blanc..panoramic views of the north face
- Lake Verney
- Redoute Fort...ruined during the Second World War
La Thuile:
This ancient mining town is dominated by the Ruitor Glacier (3485m) and is linked to La Rosière in both summer and winter and known as the Espace San Bernardo. Things to see: The waterfalls of the Ruitor Glacier and Lake Arpy.
Courmayeur:
Courmayeur is a very popular ski resort in Italy and is world famous for its walks in summer. Things to see: Helbronner point at 3462m altitude with a spectacular 360 degree view of the Italian, French and Swiss Alps, the Aguille du Midi (3842m) accessible by cable car.
