Luxury Family Ski Resort in France

La Rosiere is a wonderfully attractive well-kept French secret. A purpose built resort, it has a lovely traditional rustic Savoyard feel with low rise chalet accommodation built mostly in wood and stone. With 160km of pistes, La Rosière is part of the large Espace San Bernardo, linked to La Thuile in Italy since 1984. You can have breakfast in France and lunch in Italy! The area is the origin of the loveable St. Bernard dogs, the cuddly mountain rescuers, still to be found in resort today. There are spectacular 180 degree panoramic views from La Rosiere across the Tarentaise valley to Les Arcs, up towards St Foy, Val D´Isere and Tignes and down towards Bourg St Maurice, Aime and Moutiers, as well as impressive views of Mont Blanc from the slopes.

La Rosière has been nominated by the Where to Ski and Snowboard Guide 2006 as one of the top areas for outstanding snowfall and snowcover...«This modern resort sits in an elevated position at the end of the long Tarentaise valley, which runs roughly SW-NE. Both the village and the ski area are open to storms from the west and south-west that are funnelled up the Tarentaise valley. La Rosiere receives the full energy of these storms, and gets more snow than, for example, nearby Val D´Isère, at the same altitude but in a relatively enclosed position».

La Thuile has been nominated by the Independent as No.2 for the best ski resort for snowboarding...«"Great value"...and popular with snowboarders..."Few T-bars, miles of cruising slopes and a lack of queues make this resort ideal." After fresh snowfall the powder can remain untouched for days on the slopes, which are mostly north and east-facing. Also amazing value heli-boarding on the Rutor and Mirividi glaciers.» Vanessa Fisher and Kate Watson-Smyth, The Independent 30 Oct 2010

La Rosiere is at an altitude of 1850m with the highest on-piste skiing at 2640m and is south facing, enjoying lovely sunshine with an enviable record for excellent snow conditions and huge dumps of snow. With it´s own micro-climate, La Rosière often has the best snow in the area whilst other resorts are suffering and it lasts right to the end of the season. Queues are rare, even during high season. There is Heli-skiing available on the border with Italy, perhaps one of the cheapest places to enjoy this amazing experience for strong intermediates and above.

La Rosière is a Family Friendly Resort…La Rosière has won the accolade of FAMILLE PLUS MONTAGNE, awarded to resorts that help families enjoy hassle-free holidays by creating the best possible conditions for family holidays. Resorts must ask to be considered for this award and various assessments are carried out in order to ensure the criteria are fulfilled. Every week numerous activities for all the family are organised and all the shops and restaurants cater for children.

Check out what Dixe Wills, journalist for the Guardian, got up to when he stayed with us in La Rosiere in January 2008. Parapenting, husky-sledding, snow-shoe walking, igloo building..."With so much to do here, I´m amazed anyone has time to ski".

Events in La Rosiere...

La Rosiere makes a special effort to ensure you enjoy your stay with a host of events and open-air shows throughout the season. Every Monday evening the ESF put on their sensational Ski Show with the traditional torchlight descent where good skiers can join in, with various jumping and acrobatic displays and during the school holidays there are fireworks too! Non-skiers are equally well served with 10kms of marked and maintained footpaths amongst some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, as well as a range of other exciting activities. There is a market every Thursday and Saturday selling traditional Savoyard produce as well as clothes and jewelerry.

Restaurants in La Rosière…

On the slopes there are several restaurants in La Rosiere, ranging from basic self-service to our recommended favourites which feature sun decks with amazing views across to Les Arcs and up to Val D´Isère. There are over a dozen restaurants in La Rosière, serving very reasonably priced meals ranging from pizzas to Savoyard specialities to gourmet food. The Genepi and L´Ancolie are consistently above average and highly recommended. There is also a selection of very good restaurants in La Thuile, serving Aosta Valley specialities and traditional Italian cuisine, which are perfect for a lunchtime visit. Breakfast in France and lunch in Italy, fabulous! We´ve had a chance to sample all the restaurants, including La Maison de Neige which you reach by a toe-rope on the back of a snowmobile as well as the chilled out Grafitti Bar and the Rascard which serves 30 different pizzas, including chocolate pizza!

Bars and the nightlife in La Rosière...

La Rosiere´s nightlife can be summed up as something for everyone. It´s not a major party resort like Val D´Isère for example, however there is plenty to keep the hardened party people entertained till the early hours. La Rosiere has a few bars, new this season is Bar La Roz for great apres-ski, live music and events as well as Willy´s Bar and the Petit Danois. The Moo Bar is the late night (early morning) venue.
